Hawks have snatched another vital victory in the Gambia Football Association (GFA) division one league following a hard fought 2-1 win over Steve Biko in Wednesday’s rescheduled Week 7 fixtures at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.

Hawks, who dominated the match, ensured a slender victory against Bakau giant killers and two consecutive wins.

Hawks’ Alpha Sidibeh in the 25th minute opened their first goal with Kebba Faye coming on target in 62nd minute to help them to move away from the relegation zone.

Steve Biko managed to pull back one goal during the additional time through Saikou Conteh from a spectacular free-kick to make it 2-1.

Hawks have now bagged 14 points in eleven games, while Steve Biko have collected 11 points in eleven games.

Abdoulie Bojang, Coach of Steve Biko, speaking to Pointsport after the game, said Biko lost despite creating a lot of chances.

He said he also lost some of his players for Wednesday’s game due to sickness and injuries.

Despite the defeat, Coach Bojang is still confident that they can win the title, but stressed that they need to be very consistent if they want to be part of the title contenders.

Hawks’ Coach Sang Ndong said: “We will not congratulate ourselves, because this is our second consecutive win.”

They have been having draw in all their other league matches, but whenever they meet with Steve Biko, “it is a good game” for them, coach Ndong intimated.
