The meeting discussed Gunjur’s early exit from the Skye Bank-sponsored tournament after their 3-1 defeat to Sukuta in their final group A game played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Friday.
Speaking at the meeting, head coach of Gunjur zonal team Lamin Jabang Kaku thanked GYSDA, Gunjur zonal team management committee (GZTMC) and the fans for supporting the team fervently even though they have been eliminated from the Super Nawettan.
Jabang stated that lack of funds, training materials and injuries resulted in Gunjur’s early exit from the Super Nawettan zonal football tournament.
The assistant coach of Gunjur zonal team, Ousman Sanneh, apologized to GYSDA, GZTMC and fans following their 1-0 defeat to Manjai in their group A game. He accepted that the coaching staff were responsible for the defeat.
GYSDA applauded the coaching staff for their hard work, dedication and commitment during the tournament despite the team’s exit from it.
According to GYSDA, Gunjur will participate in the upcoming West Coast Region third division qualifiers in their quest to return to the second division following their demotion to the third tier in the 2011-2012 season.
