Debutant Gunjur United have defeated Latrikunda United 2-1 in the Week 6 fixtures in the 2011-2012 Gambia Football Association (GFA) second division league played at the weekend at the West Coast Region’s biggest football arena - Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium.
Both sides came into the game with the hope of bagging the maximum points after their dismal performances in their previous fixtures as well as keeping their hope of gaining promotion to the top-flight next season.
Gunjur United opened the score through tallish man Dodou Saine in the 3rd minute of the game after slashing through Latrikunda United slipping defence line to give his side the lead.
Moments later, Gunjur United found themselves 2-0 ahead in the 39th minute of the game when unstoppable striker Momodou Clark Bajo dribbled past Latrikunda United’s defender and finally round the goalkeeper and smashed the ball at the bottom corner to seal the victory for the South boys.
Latrikunda United, who are currently third place from bottom, fought back for an equalizer and created some goal-scoring opportunities but managed to pull back one through winger wizard Samba Njie in the 39th minute of the game, which eventually proved to be a consolation goal for the Latrikunda-based club.
