The Gambia Taekwondo Association (GTA) recently held its preparatory meeting ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games qualifiers, at the association's head office in Kanifing.
The meeting, according to officials, was held to discuss the forthcoming Olympic Games to be hosted in
Speaking at the occasion, the secretary general of the GTA, Muhammed Dinho, said his association had examined 24 taekwondo competitors a fortnight ago at the Elite Fitness Centre.
Similar exercises would be conducted in other parts of the country to scout out for good taekwondo athletes that are expected to represent The Gambia in the 2012 Taekwondo qualifiers, he said.
"The taekwondo association will also stage a tournament to scout out for good Taekwondo athletes for the national league due to take place in the London 2012 Olympic Games qualifiers," he said, adding that the association would also do all it could to ensure the team qualify for next year's Olympic Games in London.
Dinho also called on Gambians to support the GTA so that its team can qualify for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
For his part, Tunko Sanneh, a member of the association, said the meeting was also meant to motivate themselves to prepare much better ahead of the London 2012 Olympic qualifiers.
