GRTS radio Malik Jones to commentate on FIFA world cup

The head of current affairs documentary and sports of the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS), Malik Jones yesterday evening left Banjul for South Africa via Ghana, where he is expected to comment on the world's most prestigious tournament FIFA World Cup, thanks to the help of the British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC).

Jones, who spent his entire journalism career with Radio Gambia told reporters in a press conference held at GRTS office at Mile 7 on Friday before his departure that he along with 3 other African commentators, namely Stanley Katsande of Zimbabwe and Arjun Vidyarthi from Kenya, are  part of the trip.

According to Jones, who spent 30 years working with GRTS, is chosen by BBC, thanks to the support of Habuba, the director of press and public relations of CAF, whom he said, introduced him to BBC in 2009.

Jones will begin the coverage of the tournament when Serbia meet Ghana on June 13th, before commenting on the game between Ivory coast and Portugal on June 16th and then England VS Algeria on June 18th, Nigeria against South Africa four days later before commentating on his final game when Cameroon take on Holland on June 24th.
