GNOC set to stage Lower/Upper Basic Schools Tourney as preparation for Women and Sports Festival intensify

The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) is setting the stage for the celebration of Women and Sports Festival and has since set aside December 16 as the date for the big show, Pointsport can confirm.

High on this year’s programme is the football tournament for Lower and Upper Basic Schools.

The groupings for the competition have since been released, which Latrikunda Sabiji Lower Basic School against Bundung Lower Basic School slated for December 16 at Latrikunda Sabiji Lower Basic School grounds at 4pm.

On the same day, there will be what promises to produce another big clash between Abuko Upper Basic and Latrikunda Sabiji Upper Basic Schools at L.K. Lower Basic playgrounds, while the third game of the tournament will see St Therese’s Lower Basic School come face to face with Old Jeshwang Lower Basic School.

Kanifing East Upper will meet Charles Fowles Upper Basic School on December 16 to wrap up matches for day one.

Day two of the competition will see Tallinding Proper Lower Basic School lock horns with New Jeshwang Lower Basic School at Tallinding playground commencing at 4pm expected to be followed by another tie when Tallinding Upper Basic School rub shoulders with Charles Jaw Upper Basic School starting at 4pm at Tallinding playgrounds on December 17.

Serrekunda Lower Basic School meet Tallinding Annex Lower Basic School at Tallinding school grounds while Olympiafrica centre S/K E meet Bakoteh Annex Lower Basic School scheduled to take place at Bakoteh School grounds on Tuesday 20 December 2011.

Other games on 20 December include: Bakoteh Upper versus Olympafrica centre at Bakoteh playgrounds, while Latrikunda Upper Basic battle it out with St Therese’s Upper Basic School to wrap up the group stage matches.

The quarterfinal matches in the Lower Basic category is fixed for Wednesday 21 December, while that of the Upper Basic School category is slated for Thursday22 December with the semifinals and the finals to follow on 23 and 24 December respectively.

The organizers wish all the participating teams a successful tournament, saying: “Together we can promote Women and Girls in Sports.”
