GNOC set to celebrate Olympic Day

The Gambia National Olympic Committee, ambassador of the Olympic movement in The Gambia, in collaboration with the management committee of Olympafrica Center, Serekunda East, will on 18 June celebrate Olympic Day, a press release from the GNOC has indicated.

The full text of the press release sent to Pointsport yesterday reads: The Olympic Day celebration has been a firm pillar for the celebration of Olympic Day throughout the world and it is the biggest mass sport in the world organised to commemorate the founding of the modern Olympic Movement - the IOC.

Olympic Day is a great opportunity for the people around the world to experience the Olympic values and live the Olympic experience outside Games times.

The Gambia National Olympic Committee as the ambassador of the Olympic Movement in The Gambia, in collaboration with the management committee of Olympafrica Center, Serekunda East, will celebrate the day on the 18th June 2011 with activities such as 3km road race for schoolchildren, volleyball for Upper Basic Schools, handball for the Lower Basic Schools, Kids Athletics and Wheelchair 1km road race for the Paralympics

VIPs, teachers, parents and students of various schools will attend to support their athletes and teams; however at the end of the activities IOC Olympic Day certificates will be given to all the participants.

The Gambia IOC Member, Ms Beatrice Allen, will read the IOC’s president’s message to the students and the general public.

The events will start at 8:00am through 17:00pm at the Serekunda East mini-stadium.
