Armed Forces will begin the defence of their title with a game against last year FA cup finalist, Gamtel as part of the opening fixtures of yet another scintillating GFA Division One league fixtures at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai on Sunday at 4.30pm.
The Khaki Boys as they are fondly called will kick-off the campaign, aimed at maintaining an impressive performance which saw them claiming their second national league titles with 44 points.
Before that there will be an opening game of the campaign between GPA and the Academy Boys Samger that were unsuccessful in its attempt to repeat similar success after an impressive performance in 2006\07 league season when the two sides rope shoulders at the Serrekunda West mini-stadium on Saturday.
Bakau United that spent the majority part of last year’s season on top of the table before enduring disappointing display mid-way through the second half of the season will start the league with a game against the red devils Hawks at the Serrekunda-East-Mini-stadium also on Saturday, while the promoted Interior side, headed by Ebrima Manneh will begin the campaign when they travel to the Western Region to face Brikama United at the Box-Bar-Mini-Stadium as part of the last game on Saturday.
Wallidan is undoubtedly the most successful GFA Division One team with a record number of 10 league titles to its name but the Banjul club has struggled to replicate similar success finishing 3rd in the GFA league standings last season.
Another mouth watering league on Sunday will see the 2006 league champions Real De Banjul roping shoulders with the Bakau giant killers Steve Biko that secured its most impressive league standing as they occupied the second spot on 33 points.
Despite achieving some successes over the years, Biko could be affected by the departure of a good number of their first team players who left the country for possible trials.
