The Gambia Football Association, the umbrella body charged with the affairs of running football in the country yesterday at 4.00pm announced that it has closed the nominations ahead of the much-anticipated congress, slated for December 31st 2009.
Seedy M.B. Kinteh, the President of the association is getting closer to another tenure in office as the President of the Gambia Football Association, the position he took over in 2005.
A total of 54, out of 59 clubs including both male and female division teams, ranging from the first and second divisions, as well as the regions, respectively nominated Seedy as its candidate for the forthcoming congress.
Seedy who became many people's favourite to retain the position, due to the numerous successes he achieved and continued to achieve in the development and promotion of sports in the country, particularly football is unopposed for the presidential position.
Despite his short tenure in office, Seedy M.B. Kinteh, together with his colleagues has proven beyond all reasonable doubts that he is capable, after making history by leading the Baby Scorpions to their second African U-17 title with an impressive 3-nil victory over the host Algeria, some eight (8) months ago in Algiers.
The U-20 for the first time in the history of Gambian football qualified and represented the country in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada with something to be proud of under his stewardship, including extraordinary performances as the senior national team denied neighbours, the Teranga Lions of Senegal, a spot in the Joint Africa Nation and World Cup finals in Angola and South Africa, respectively among other magnificent achievements.
Meanwhile, other positions such as the First Vice-President, the Second Vice-President among others would be elected during the much-talked about congress on December 31.st.
