The Gunjur Environment protection and Development Group recently held a validation workshop.
In welcoming the guests to the ceremony, the Executive Director of Gunjur Environment protection and Development Group (GEPADG), Mr Alieu Badara Njie Bajo, expressed his gratitude to the gathering for responding to their immediate call. He said the community of Gunjur are now aware of the importance of a protected clean and healthy environment.
For his part, the coordinator of Integration Coastal and Marine Biodiversity, Mr Ousainou Touray, highlighted the benefits that derive from the Bolong Fanyo wildlife conservation. "This will help create job opportunities in Tourism just like in other countries," said Mr Touray.
While addressing the crowd the Assistant Governor of the Western Region, Mrs. Zainabou Faal, said environmental protection is of paramount importance to any nation building activity. A healthy community doing good work supports every country said Mrs Faal.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary Department of State for Forestry and Environment, Mr M.O. Njie, assured the community of Gunjur of the sole ownership of the Bolong Feny.
He said this it first community wildlife conservation area in The Gambia.
He advised every Gunjurian to be a watchdog in order to stop criminals from exploiting the area. Other speakers included Alpha Jallow, Director of Parks and Wild life, Alhagie Manjang Assistant Director of Parks and Wildlife, a representative of the elder's council and the VDC Chairman
The workshop ended by validating the document to guide and protect the site in future.
