No fewer than ninety-five (95) students of  JanjangburehUpperBasicSchool in Central River Region recently were awarded scholarship by the George Town Trust.

According to the chairman  of the trust Mr.Richard Leon the aims and objective of the trust is to help poor and deserving students in The Gambia. He added that the trust is out to complement government's efforts in realising quality and relevant education for all. He urged the beneficiary students to make the best use of the opportunity, for that they can be assured of more support.

For his part, the principal of  Janjanbureh Upper Basic School Mr. Michael Hammadi Secka said the school is at its infant stage for that such assistance is highly welcome. He thanked the sponsors for the gesture. He revealed that D40,000 has so far been paid by the trust for the school fees and examination fees of the 95 male students in the school.

This, he said, will compliment government efforts and will ease the economic burden on their parents. He added that the intervention of the George Town Trust is timely because this is a difficult time of the year for parents to meet their economic commitments to the school. Mr. Secka finally called on NGO's, philanthropists and well-wishers to emulate the Geroget Town Trust.
