The Gambia Cricket Association last Thursday concluded a 3-day ICC/ACA-Africa Umpiring and Scorers Course for Physical Education Teachers and Sports Instructors of schools in Banjul at the 22nd July Square Hall in Banjul.
The essence of the course was to educate Physical Educator Instructors about Umpiring and Scoring, so they could be officiating in school leagues.
The three-day course brought together 20 Physical Educators from different schools who were educated on Basic Umpiring, Laws and Signals, Ways of Dismissal and Scoring.
The course instructor was Johnny Gomez and its development team.
In another development, Muhammedan Lower Basic School defeated defending champions Albion Lower Basic School on Thursday 2 May in the 2016 Primary Schools Boys Knockout Tournament Finals held at the July 22nd Square in Banjul.
Muhammedan Lower Basic School won the title by 2 wickets.
At the presentation ceremony the president of the association thanked the schools’ head and physical education teachers for allowing and preparing the students to participate in the tournament, as every school that participates is a winner.
The winner and runners-up went with a trophy and certificate while the participating schools went with a certificate each.
Campama Lower Basic School also collected trophy for the League title and the runners-up trophy for the league was presented to Albion Lower Basic School.
St. Augustine’s Upper Basic School also won the 2016 Senior/Junior Secondary School Boys League and Knock-out Tournament.
St. Augustine’s Upper Basic School won the knock-out title by 36 runs.
The winner and runners-up went with a trophy and certificate while the participating schools went with a certificate each.
St. Augustine’s Upper Basic School also collected the trophy for the league title and the runners-up trophy for the league was presented to Garba Jahumpa Upper Basic School.
