Gambia to Participate in First Commonwealth Youth Games

The Gambia will participate for the first time ever in the third Commonwealth Youth Games to take place in Pune from the 12thto the 18thof October 2008.

Gambian athletes will join more that 1,300 other elite young sportsmen and women from all 71 countries and territories that will come together during this period, making it the biggest assembly of U-18 sporting talent at an international multi-sport event.

According to the media release sent to the Gambia National Olympic committee on the countdown to the third Commonwealth Youth Games, the countdown to the third Commonwealth Youth Games has begun with less than 100 days until the opening ceremony in the Indian city of Pune.

The release states that the games promise to be the biggest and best yet. " More that 1,300 elite young sportsmen and women from 71 commonwealth countries and territories will take part," it adds.

It further stated that in Pune, Athletes will take part in a program that embraces nine of the individual sports of the Delhi Games, including athletics, badminton, boxing, shooting, swimming, tennis, table tennis, weightlifting and wrestling.
