Gambia Ports Authority Top 2nd Division League

Gambia Ports Authority on Tuesday climbed on top of the 2008-09 GFA second division league following their narrow 2-1 victory over struggling Jambangjelly in week fourteen encounter of the ongoing GFA second division league at the Brikama Mini Stadium.

The first 20 minutes of the game dominated by Jambangjelly and create numerous scoring opportunities in front of the GPA goal mouth but failed to capitalise on their chances. GPA who are hoping to return to the GPA 1st division league next season relied on counter attacks.

GPA opened the tally in the 38th minute through striker Hatab Badjie from a close range, Jambangjelly fought back but unable to level the tally and the first half ended 1-0 in favour of Ferry Boys.

Upon the resumption of the second half, Jambangjelly who lie at the bottom of the table need a victory to move away from relegation zone, mounted pressure on the GPA defence, and succeeded to level the  tally through striker Buba Sambou in the 51stminute but GPA, who are eager to gain promotion to the GPA premier league next season, made a remarkable comeback and put pressure on Jambangjelly, finally grabbing their winning goal in the 71st through left winger Alieu Jarju from a close range shot.

Jambangjelly though fought back in the dying minutes of the game and created several scoring chances but unable to break the deadlock.

GPA now bags 27 points from fourteen games, Jambangjelly are still at the bottom of the table with only 8 points from thirteen games.

Nema United thrashed Young Africans 3-0 in the other week fourteen encounter at the at Serrekunda East Mini Stadium, Nema United are 4th position on the table with 22 points from thirteen games with a game in hand while Young Africans are now 8th position on the table with 15 points from eleven games with two games in hand, Ham Ham drew 1-1 with Serrekunda East at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda.

Ham Ham are 5th position on the table with 15 points from fourteen games while Serrekunda are now 2nd position on the table with 25 points from thirteen games, with a game in hand.

Week fourteen encounter continues today Thursday 21st May 2009, Lamin FC will with clash with Interior at the Brikama Mini Stadium, Lamin are now 7th position on the table with 15 points in thirteen games with a game in hand, Interior are 3rd position on the table with 22 points from thirteen games.

Serrekunda United will take on Kaira Silo at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, Serrekunda United are 8th position on the standings.
