After their first ever appearance in the just concluded ICC U-19 qualifiers in Mozambique, The Gambia U-19 Cricket team are back in Banjul.
The team lost their first match against host, Mozambique, who won by 115 runs.
They also lost to Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Ghana.
The Gambia U-19 side only credit this time in the championship was a draw with Swaziland.
According to Johnny Gomez, President of the Gambia Cricket Association who led the team to the qualifiers, the boys did well and have improved in bowling and fielding, but do face a major problem in the batting aspect.
He said, "The Gambia Cricket Association is seriously working to improve that aspect. But all in all, the boys have gained exposure as they played with more experienced sides".
Out of the five teams that took part in the qualifiers, Sierra Leone is the only team that qualified to the next level and will play with ICC associate members in the championship.
In another development, The Gambia U-13 cricket team is currently warming up for their next outing scheduled for the 14th to 20th of April in Ghana. The team is training at the July
22nd Squarein Banjul.
