Gambia celebrates 20th anniversary of July 22nd Revolution
The Gambia will tomorrow Tuesday celebrate the 20th anniversary of the July 22nd Revolution under the leadership of President Yahya Jammeh.
According to news reports, a task force set up for the 20th anniversary celebration last week briefed President Jammeh on the level of preparedness to celebrate the event.
“The July 22nd celebrations have for the past two years been coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan…
“This year’s event will be celebrated in a special way. Iftar (breaking of the fast) will be organized at the presidency, as well as in all the seven administrative regions of the country”, the Daily Observer reported.
Official sources also said the celebration will be observed with prayers in all mosques and churches across the country.
President Jammeh came into power through a bloodless coup on 22 July 1994. Since then he has won four presidential elections in 1996, 2001, 2007 and 2011.
