The event brought together staff and customers of the company as well as officials from its parent company in the United Kingdom.
Manlafi Jammeh, chief executive officer of Gam-Abroad parent body, said the company was incorporated in the UK in June 2014 as a money transfer company.
He said:“When we came to The Gambia to register the company, we understand that it is only government institutions that are allowed to use the ‘Gambia’ [to begin a company’s name] that is why when we set up in the country, we use the name ‘Gam-Abroad’.”
Mr Jammeh said the company “is very socially responsible” as every month, five of their customers from UK and five less privilege families in The Gambia are selected and are given surprise package of a bag of rice, 20 litre gallon cooking oil, 20 kilos sack of tomatoes and D1,000 cash.He said they are also helping to build a mosque in the UK.
The Gam-Abroad CEO said the year 2015 has been “a year of significant milestone” for the company as it was able to register modest successes despite challenges.
According to him, the company is one of “the highly regarded and fastest money transfers in the UK”.
Currently, the company has more than 700 customers, Mr Jammeh said, adding that they will continue to strengthen partnership with customers.
Abdoulie Mendy, managing director of Gam-Abroad, said the company has dynamic staff most of whom are ex-bankers who are au fait with financial transaction and customer care in a financial institution.
He noted that the company is not competing with any foreign exchange bureau in The Gambia for they see other bureaus as partners in national development.
Mr Mendy said even though Gam-Abroad has one branch in The Gambia, but it is like they have branches all over the country because they are in partnership with GTBank Gambia.
The first anniversary also witnessed the presentation of awards to two staffs of the company for their hard work and dedication to customers over the year.
Njameh Njie was awarded Employee of the Year while Mr Baldeh, Manager of the Year.
