Stakeholders in the agriculture sector recently concluded a three-day forum on food security and sustainable development at the Paradise Suites Hotel in Kololi.
In his speech at the forum, Dr. Yao Guevera, ECOWAS Commissioner for Community Development Programme revealed that his organisation was created to facilitate initiatives and development policies of its member states so as to accelerate economic growth. Economic integration, he said, has been identified as the key strategic goal to meet Vision 2020.
According to him, the objectives of the workshop include to strengthen regional integration and community development programme, help collect analysis to make recommendations for an effective development of agriculture and food security, and to inform, mobilise and build the capacity of networks.
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Momodou S. Kah stressed the importance of such an approach, noting that involving all relevant stakeholders would enhance effective regional integration.
He noted that at the end of the forum participants are expected to have a better knowledge of the regulatory texts and laws on ECOWAS to support and enhance community integration.
The workshop was organised by the ROPPA, RECAO, COASAD, all farming organisations, in partnership with the ECOWAS, with the aim of sensitising \stakeholders in agriculture on food security and community development.
