The Chairman Brikama Area Council, Sunkary Badjie, recently launched the Foundation Humanitarian Aid Gambia (FHAG) in Brikama in the Kombo Central District of the Western Region.
In his launching statement, the BAC Chairman said the project initiated by FHAG is driven by strong desire and passion to uplift the living standard of needy orphans within a family set up. He revealed that the project will start with twelve orphans, and will be piloted in Foni Brefet, Kombo East, Kombo South and Kombo Central with a starting fund of D800, 000 to be utilized in the coming years.
He further revealed that FHAG intends to render assistance to needy orphans during Muslim and Christian feasts, as well as in the education and health sectors.
He urged all stakeholders, including ward councillors, to help in the identification of the needy orphans in collaboration with the representative of FHAG.
The Project Manager of FHAG, Seedy Jarju, said the foundation was established in 1995 with a view to giving support to needy orphans in the region. He said that since its establishment, the foundation has complemented the government's efforts in the areas of agriculture, health and education.
FHAG has understood some of the important factors that may retard the development of the orphans, and is now recommending assisting the orphans, Mr. Jarju added.
The launching ceremony was attended by the Governor Western Region, Lamin Sanneh, among other dignitaries.
