The
criminal appeal case involving the jailed leader of the United Democratic
Party, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, and 29 others versus the state has been
rescheduled until 14 and 21 November 2016.
Upon
the arrival of our reporter at the courts complex yesterday morning, the
premises was filled with family members and relatives and of the appellants,
whom they were expecting at the court.
However,
they were later informed that the matter was no longer proceeding, as a senior
official at the court intimated to our reporter that the matter had been
rescheduled for the two dates mentioned.
He
informed this reporter that the prison authorities and DPP were contacted about
the development as the appellants would not be coming.
It
would be recalled that the appellants were jailed for three years last July by
the high courts in Banjul and Mansakonko, after they were convicted for
unlawful assembly, holding a procession without a permit, conspiracy, riot,
among others.
