Cleanliness is next to Godliness

Jun 6, 2011, 2:43 PM

As the rainy season is fast approaching, people should now start to clean their environment to prevent their families from contagious diseases.

The health officials should embark on community outreach programmes to sensitize people on how to prevent themselves from malaria, because during the course of the rainy season pregnant women and children under five years old are more vulnerable to malaria.

If people sleep under insecticide-treated mosquito nets it will prevent them and their family from malaria, since during this period most of the time hospital admissions are always high because this is the peak period for the disease.

Despite the numerous mosquito nets distributed by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the health-related non governmental organizations in the country, malaria still remains a challenge for the country.

One will wonder whether all the nets distributed in the country are being used by the beneficiaries, because some people are fond of not using the mosquito nets for the purpose it is meant for, but instead prefer to keep it in their houses without being use, whilst other are with the belief that using a net is an old fashioned habit.

It is high time for people to know that the health of their family should be on of their agenda, and that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation.

Let us give health the due attention it deserves to save our life.

We call on every family head to provide mosquito nets to their family, as we are about to enter the rainy season.
