The final of the Caddy Golf Competition was held on Sunday 18October 2009, at the Fajara Club.
The competition, as stated earlier by Pointsport, was sponsored by Richard and Suzanne, and started a week earlier with 32 players. All caddies at the Fajara Club worked hard during the rainy season but with no many golfers.
This was one of the reasons why Richard and Suzanne decided to sponsor a competition for them. Another reason was to raise standards of the game and create awareness of the complicated set of rules of golf.
The Gambia Golf Association (GGA) was invited to help in the marshalling and monitoring of the competition.
Each group of players were carefully watched by G.G.A's. representatives, G.G.A's PRO, Fajara Club's PRO and Fajara Club Golf members.
These matches were played according to the Royal and Ancient St. Andrews' Rules of Golf.
The day of the final was wonderful. Although there was some rain, all their colleagues came out to watch and encourage the 8 finalists. Ebou Jarjue unfortunately could not play due to an injury.
In golf, there are many different ways of scoring (formats). The sponsor chose the format called Medal, because of the pure golf. Every stroke counts and the finalists play of scratch, which means a handicap of zero. They are all equal during the match.
The presentation took place inside the caddy area, there were various prizes:
Winners of the longest drives: Nuha Saidy, Bakaray Njie, Buba Drammeh, Lamin B. Drammeh
Nearest to the Pin Hole No 5: Nuha Saidy
Best Dressed Player of the Day: Edi Jammeh
Results of the Final: First: Edi Jammeh 76, Second: Nuha Saidy 79, Third: Wilson Tamba 80
Rest of the scores: Bakary Njie 82, Fansu Drammeh 82, Omar Jadama 84, Gibril Badjie 86, Ousman Bah 88
The whole competition was well received by everyone and the sponsors look forward to doing it again in future.
