Brikama Area Council and Samasang Federation, an affiliated body of Child Fund, The Gambia, last Thursday 5th November, 2009 signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
The signing ceremony of the MOU which centred on youth and child empowerment, information and resource sharing, among others, was held at the Council's grounds.
In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Momodou Gida Jallow, the Chief Executive Officer of Brikama Area Council described the signing of the MOU as an historic event, noting that it is line with the decentralisation programmes of the government.
Mr. Jallow disclosed that the Memorandum of Understanding has covered a wide range of areas, including youth and child empowerment, information and resource sharing, capacity-building, improved service delivery. He added that the MOU will ensure better coordination, reduce wastage of resources and enhancing greater community participation in development initiatives.
Speaking further, BAC's Chief Executive Officer noted that the signing of the MOU will strengthen the relationship that exists between his Council and Samasang Federation, while urging other operators in the region to emulate Samasang Federation. Mr. Jallow hoped that the collaboration between BAC and Samasang will grow from strength to strength.
In his statement, Mr. Edrisa A Cham, Samasang Federation Manager said BAC and his Federation, has shared common goals and objectives.
According to him, the MOU is geared towards efficient and sustainable service delivery. The Samasang Federation Manager further commended the task force committee assigned with the drafting of the MOU.
He promised that his Federation will leave up to expectations.
For his part, Mr. Sunkary Badjie, the Chairman of Brikama Area Council described Samasang Federation as a genuine partner of his council. Mr. Badjie added that the MOU had given a complete approach to the successful achievement of the aims and objectives of the council and Samasang Federation.
The BAC Chairman reiterated the call for other stakeholders in the region to emulate Samasang Federation for better and efficient service delivery.
In his statement, Mr. Momodou Jallow, Child Fund's Area Manager for Samasang and Kaira Nyining Federation said the signing of the MOU is part of an ongoing strategy planning initiative of his federation.
Mr. Jallow assured the Council that other federation will be urged to follow suit as he stated the MOU is beneficial to the two parties.
In his statement, the Governor of Western Region, Mr. Lamin Sanneh described the signing of the MOU as a milestone development. Mr Sanneh noted that the signing of the MOU is in line with the 2020 blue print and the Local Government Act.
The Western Region boss further commended the government under the leadership of President Jammeh for initiating the project, geared towards sustainable development.
Mr. Sanneh added that the Council is central to national development initiatives.
