The Brikama Area Council last Thursday 9th July 2009, donated twenty new plastic chairs to the personnel of the Police Intervention Unit in the Western Region, at a ceremony held at the council.
In his welcoming remarks, the Public Relations Officer of Brikama Area Council, Mr. Serign Modou Joof, said the gesture by his council followed a request made by the beneficiaries. He noted that the contributions of the Police Intervention Unit in the protection of life and property are of paramount importance.
For his part, Mr. Momodou Jallow, the Chief Executive Officer of the council, said the donation was meant to alleviate the plight of the Police Intervention Unit in the execution of their duties.
Though the gesture might be small, he said, it will be of immense use to the beneficiaries. He stated that the donation marks the beginning of a new relationship between the council and the police.
In handing over the donated items, Mr. Sunkary Badjie, the Chairman of the Brikama Area Council, said the donation is a manifestation of his council's commitment to development.
ASP Baboucarr Cham, the Commander of PIU, Western Region, who received the donated items, expressed gratitude to Brikama Area Council for their timely assistance. He promised that the donated items would be put to good use.
