West Coast Region outfit Bombada United on Friday beat newly-promoted side Blue Star FC 4-1 in the week-six fixtures played at the FIFA Goal Project in Old Yundum to snatch top spot in the 2013-2014 Gambia Football Federation (GFF) second division league.
The victory has earned the West Coast Region outfit top spot with 12 points in six games after closest contenders lost to Lamin United 1-0 in the other week-six fixtures played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium the same day.
Young Africans have now dropped 2nd position with 11 points in six games and will be hoping to bounce back in their remaining fixtures to keep their hopes of regaining promotion to the premier tier next season following their demotion to the second tier after their dismal performance last season.
The win has earned Lamin United mid-table with 7 points in six games after their slender win over Young Africans.
Blue Star FC are currently languishing on relegation zone and will have to go all out to win their remaining games to fancy their chances of staying the second tier next season.
On the same day, at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium, Tallinding United beat neighbours Serrekunda East FC 2-1 in a keenly-contested encounter.
Sanna Jabang opened the score-line for Tallinding United in the 31st minute of the game from a fine close-range shot to give his side a 1-nil lead going into the break. Dawda Secka levelled the score for Serrekunda East FC in the 63rd minute following Abubacarr Ceesay’s goalkeeping error. Substitute Modou Lamin Jatta sealed the victory for Tallinding United in the 85th minute of the game from a superb shot to earn his side all three points.
