The Gambia football legend Alagie Momodou Njie better known as Biri Biri will add another laurel in his record as one of the greatest African soccer players during his time when he travels to the US later in May.
The Gambia-America Association in appreciation of Biri’s great services to the country over the past three decades as an active national team player and the country’s football ambassador, will award the football legend, a lifetime achievement award.
Alagie Momodou Njie was a former football star and to one-time European powerhouse, Sevilla.
Biri is invited as a special guest of honour as part of the Africa Liberation Day Celebration to be hosted by the Gambia-American Association of the greater Washington DC Area next month.
“Biri’s contribution to Gambian football is immeasurable; his unique contribution towards spreading the goodwill of Gambia and its people around the world is unparalleled; premised on the aforementioned and more, that The Gambia American Association deems it fitting and a national obligation to honour the greatest that ever suited in our colours.”
Veteran Gambian footballers resident in the United States who have had the rare opportunity of playing with or against Alagie Momodou Njie Biri Biri have also been invited by the Gambia-American Association to participate in a veteran’s game staged in his name on Sunday, 29 May 2011.
