Belgium-Gambia based charity called, BelGambian Dream Foundation have recently
donated learning materials, including books, toys, clothes and food stuff to
children in various schools in The Gambia to enhance their education and
performance in school
BelGambian Dream Foundation is a charitable organization registered in Belgium and based in The Gambia.
Suzanne Mortier, a member of the foundation said they exist to help needy children especially orphans, saying they chose to help Gambian school children because of the love her family has for the country.
She said they have 25 different parents sponsoring about 25 orphan children in The Gambia. “Another twenty-five are on the waiting list for sponsorship,” she said.
Mortier emphasized that education is not a privilege but a right and every child has the right to be educated although some are still not privileged to get it.
Abdoulie Ceesay, National Assembly Member for Old Yundum, who is one of the beneficiaries expressed delight over the gesture. He affirmed that about five children in his constituency are benefitting from the sponsorship program, adding that the initiative was timely.
He said the government cannot do everything for the people alone, appealing to other philanthropists to emulate the foundation and come forward to support the needy children.
Lamin Sonko, Coordinator of the Foundation said the foundation is a non-profit making organization that conducts regular visits to its beneficiaries to assess their improvement.
Nyima Conteh, a sponsored child and pupil of Methodist Academy thanked her sponsors and assured them that she will make the best use of the materials.
