Belgium-Gambia based charity called, BelGambian Dream Foundation have recently
donated learning materials, including books, toys, clothes and food stuff to
children in various schools in The Gambia to enhance their education and
performance in school
BelGambian
Dream Foundation is a charitable organization registered in Belgium and based
in The Gambia.
Suzanne
Mortier, a member of the foundation said they exist to help needy children
especially orphans, saying they chose to help Gambian school children because
of the love her family has for the country.
She
said they have 25 different parents sponsoring about 25 orphan children in The
Gambia. “Another twenty-five are on the waiting list for sponsorship,” she
said.
Mortier
emphasized that education is not a privilege but a right and every child has
the right to be educated although some are still not privileged to get it.
Abdoulie
Ceesay, National Assembly Member for Old Yundum, who is one of the
beneficiaries expressed delight over the gesture. He affirmed that about five children
in his constituency are benefitting from the sponsorship program, adding that
the initiative was timely.
He
said the government cannot do everything for the people alone, appealing to
other philanthropists to emulate the foundation and come forward to support the
needy children.
Lamin
Sonko, Coordinator of the Foundation said the foundation is a non-profit making
organization that conducts regular visits to its beneficiaries to assess their
improvement.
Nyima
Conteh, a sponsored child and pupil of Methodist Academy thanked her sponsors
and assured them that she will make the best use of the materials.
