A man called Ebrima Conteh, who was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, will know his fate on 15 November 2010 when Magistrate Sanneh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court is expected to pass sentence on him.

Narrating the facts of the case, Sgt Kinteh told the court that the incident happened on 17 October 2010 at Serrekunda, when the accused went to the shop of the complainant, Muhammed Njie, and requested for a mobile flash card.

The complainant, he added, told the accused the price of the item he requested for, but was not willing to pay the amount and told the complainant that:“You Nigerians are hiking the prices.”

Kinteh further narrated that this statement led to a fight between the two and the accused hit the complainant on his head, causing him injuries.

He narrated that the complainant reported the matter to the Serrekunda Police Station and was referred to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH) for treatment, where he was issued a medical certificate.

The accused, the prosecutor added, was later arrested and taken to the Serrekunda Police Station where he was cautioned and charged with the offence committed.

Meanwhile, the accused, who pleaded guilty to the charge, was granted bail in the sum of D5,000 with a Gambia surety with a valid national identity card.
