The ruling APRC party candidate for the Bwiam Ward by-election in the Brikama Area Council has been elected councillor for the ward.
Essa Bojang was “duly elected” owing to the fact that he was the only nominated candidate for the ward at the close of nomination yesterday, 22 October 2015.
“Consequently,” Independent Electoral Commission chairman Mustapha L. Carayol said, “an election will not take place since he was the only candidate nominated at the close of nomination.”
An IEC press release by chairman Carayol stated further: “Therefore, in accordance with Section 53, subsection (1) (a) and (b) of the same Act, I hereby declare that Mr Essa Bojang has been duly elected Councillor for Bwiam Ward in the Brikama Area Council.”
