Alleged theft case fails to proceed

The alleged criminal trial of theft and receiving stolen property, involving Omar Gassama, Karamba Ceesay, Edrisa Camara and Mbye Kebbeh could not proceed yesterday at the Kanifing Magistrates' Court before Magistrate Jallow.

The prosecuting officer, CPL 3560 Colley, told the court that the second prosecution witness, supposed to be cross-examined, was not in court, couple with the fact that the fourth accused was also absent.

He craved the court's indulgence to grant him a short adjournment, which was accordingly granted without any objection from counsel for the third accused.

The case was subsequently adjourned till 9 June 2011.

According to the particulars of offence on count one, Omar Gassama, Karamba Ceesay and Edrisa Camara, on 17 March 2011, at Sankung Sillah & Sons Company Ltd, jointly stole machine spare parts and iron pipes valued at D174,900.

Count two of the charge sheet revealed that Mbye Kebbeh, on 20 March 2011, at Bambo Cement, received machine spare parts and iron pipes from the first, second and third accused persons at a price of D800, knowing or having reasons to believe same to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.
