The date for the girl’s festival was announced yesterday at a press briefing at the Gambia Football Federation Secretariat in Kanifing.
Alhagie Ebrima Nyassi, GFF grassroots football development officer, said the event will start with march-past by Gambia Band to be followed by other activities.
Nyassi stated that the festival is expected to bring together participants from GFF female first and second teams, SOS Children village and schools.
Nyassi, who stated that the festival is targeting girls from 14 to 24 years, said the festival will bring together about three hundred girls for the day-long event, which is the second girls’ festival.
Sainabou Cham, GFF ex-co member, said the festival is the second of its kind, adding that GFF would work with FIFA to promote and develop women football in the country.
Cham hailed the media for their contribution towards the development of women football in the country.
Mam Lisa Camara, GFF ex-co member, said the festival is meant to promote women, noting that women are the future of Gambian football.
GFF Technical Director Ebrima Manneh said FIFA would want to start football at schools, adding that the festival would also feature technical training for the next two years.
Ajara Samba, ambassadors of Women Football, said they are ready for the festival, appealing to the media to publicise the much-awaited girls’ festival.
