The organizers of the second edition of the African Youth Initiative and Creative Award is inviting young people from Africa of course including Gambians to participate in this year's competition.
According to a press release issued by the Gambia National Youth Council, Gambian youths like their counterparts in other parts of the continent, are qualified to participate.
According to the release, the theme for this year is African Youth Promote African Positive Values and it aims to promote African Youth creativity, participation, communication skills and visibility; promote the African Youth Charter and African positive values; strengthen the dialogue, mutual confidence and participation between the youth, public authorities and parliaments; promote good governance, citizen participation and democracy in Africa.
The award which will be organised in five categories namely: African youth charter; citizenship and positive values; youth policy; youth rights and participation and youth adult partnership, will seek to award young people who are able to create persuasive speeches to facilitate the ratification of the African youth charter, accelerate implementation of existing youth related policies and promote the creation of new laws, policies and frameworks to advance the development of the youth.
It is important to note that all intending participants to this competition must be between the ages of 15 and 35 and must also submit their speeches of a maximum of 1,500 words to the National Youth Council, located at the Independence Stadium, on or before Friday 29th May, 2009.
Furthermore, winners will be presented their awards and also participate in the youth mobility, communication and sustainable development training workshop from July 25th to 29th to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
