440km relay edges closer

The ongoing run for The Gambia which covers a total of 440-km relay, the biggest in the country's athletics, starting from Koina on Friday is edging closer to an end, according to the Development Officer of the Gambia National Sports Council Abdul Azizi Titao Mendy, who is part of the contingent on a countrywide tour.

The event is on the finishing touch as the participants have already covered the majority of the distance which lasted for 8 hours a day.

The participants as Pointsport learnt are currently in Kafuta, where they spent the night.They will finally proceed to Banjul today at around 4.00pm to complete the race.

The three-day event is jointly organised by Run for The Gambia, in collaboration with the Department of Youths and Sports, National Sports Council, Gambia Athletics Association and Regional Sports Committees.

Certificates and medals would be awarded to participants, including the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best relay teams, who will be awarded trophies and cash amount of D25, 000, D15, 000 and D10, 000, respectively.
