Rotary International District Governor
Mr. Raphael Fiatty, the District Governor of Rotary International clubs has said that over 30, 000 die per day in the world according to infant mortality statistics.
Mr. Fiatty made this revelation yesterday during a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay.
The District Governor of Rotary International of 14 countries, with 150 clubs, stated that his organisation is keen to help reduce the difficulties in life most especially in the area of health. He maintained that Rotary International is not about sex, religion or politics, but an organisation made up of benevolent people that stand to help in diverse areas.
"Rotary International Club is not governed by religion, sex, or politics, but rather an organisation made of benevolent people that stand for the welfare of the people in diverse areas," he said.
"They are not members of the government, they are here to support and help the government," he added.
He said his visit to The Gambia is part of his duties to visit member clubs in various countries to discuss issues of concern and pave the way for the future. He said that Rotary clubs in The Gambia are doing very well as they stand always to serve the public in diverse areas, ranging from health, education, water, agriculture amongst others. He revealed they would be launching a new project in The Gambia in the very near future.
He stated that the Rotary's theme for this year is, "Make Dreams Come True".
He used the occasion to thank the leadership of The Gambia government for their support to Rotary clubs in the country.
Speaking earlier, Fatoumata Jahumpa-Ceesay, the Speaker of the National Assembly, assured the Rotary International of her office's support.
"You are one of the best clubs in the country as you always come up with very useful projects. You are real Rotarians," she declared.
