2 convicted on multiple offences

Magistrate Fatou Darboe of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced Mustapha Janneh and Karamo Njie on charges of conspiracy to commit felony, burglary, stealing and receiving stolen property.

After their plea of mitigation, they were sentenced as follows: on count one the 2nd accused was fined D4,000 in default to serve three months in prison; on count two, the 1st accused was fined D10,000 in default to serve four months in prison; on count three, the 1st accused was fined D5,000 in default to serve four months in prison, and on count four, the 2nd accused was fined D5,000 in default to serve three months in prison.

The court further ordered that the flat screen TV be returned to the complainant.

The charge sheet on count one stated that on 4 June 2014, at Bakau New Town, in the Kanifing Municipality, they broke into the house of one Captain Elizabeth Innis with intent to commit a felony, therein wit stealing.

Count two read that the 1st accused broke into the house of the said Captain Elizabeth Innis with intent to commit a felony, therein wit stealing.

Count three indicated that the 1st accused broke into the house of the said Captain Elizabeth and stole the following items: flat screen TV valued at D30,000, DVD player valued at D1,000 and decoder valued at D3,000, all being the property of the said Captain Elizabeth Innis.

Count four stated that the 2nd accused received from Mustapha Janneh (1st accused) one flat screen TV valued at D30,000, such property he knew, or having reasons to believe, was stolen or unlawfully obtained.
