Veteran Gambian musicians Singhateh Rise and Freaky Joe used to be household names in The Gambia. However, they have both lavished praised on Gambian musical sensation and Afro-fusion star, Nyancho.

Freaky Joe described Nyancho as one of the most complete artists presently on Gambian soil whilst he was being paid courtesy at his studio by Nyancho.

“He was my dancer in 2009 and now he is one of the most complete artist in The Gambia. He sings, dance and entertain,” wrote Freaky Joe on his social media handles.

“He is an artist that does not cheat. Even when doing play backs, he give it all. He came to the studio on a sponsored project by Washington West African Centre in the United States, and indeed he got me dancing due to his energy and style.”

“I cannot express how happy I am seeing him grown from being my back up…We had a great studio time and a little chat,” he added.

Dodou Manneh who goes by the stage name Nyancho aka Apachaky is originally from Bakalary Madina in Niumi. He is behind the famous song 'Apachaky' which is recently dominating our radio stations and TV.

The young talented artist turns out to be the latest crowd puller in the Gambian music industry, as he is admired by boys and girls, men and women, young and old.

Nyancho attended Bakau Newtown Primary School and Greater Banjul Upper, but due his interest in music he had to leave school.

He started as a dancer and then got into music in 2009. It was not until he produced his song ‘Apachaky’ in 2013 that he began attracting attention.

“Music is my living, my breakfast, lunch and dinner and it is going normal; it is only the support that is lacking,” Nyancho once told The Point in October 2014, when he was still trying to make his way to the Gambian musical limelight.

Now, he remains one of the country’s top sensations in the music industry.
