Head coach of The Gambia U-20 team, Abdoulie Bojang, has expressed optimism that his team would perform well in the upcoming WAFU Zone A U-20 football tournament.

The Gambia have drawn against Senegal, Mali and Mauritania in Group B of the sub-regional cadet biggest football fiesta.

Speaking to the GFF Media, Bojang, acknowledged the tough nature of the group but was quick to emphasise that The Gambia is no longer considered an underdog in this competition.

"The draw is fair but a tough group.

These are countries we have played in the previous tournaments," he noted.

Coach Bojang stressed the importance of assessing the strengths and weaknesses of their opponents to better prepare for the matches.

He expressed gratitude to the Federation for ensuring that the logistics were forthcoming to have already started their groundwork a month ago and now focused on strengthening their strategies.

"What is crucial now is ensuring that we strengthen the good preparations we started a month ago, to try to have test matches and sort out a formidable team for the qualifiers," Coach Bojang said.

With a sense of optimism and respect for the opponents, Bojang believes in the team's potential to qualify.

"It is football and we are very optimistic; with due respect to all the teams, but we have what it takes to qualify.

‘‘We believe in ourselves that we have a team that can beat any opponent," Coach Bojang pointed out.

The Young Scorpions are gearing up to show their skills and determination on the field, aiming to make a significant impact in the WAFU Zone A U-20 football tournament.
