Hammarby IF’s forward player, Bubacarr ‘Steve’ Trawally will miss the rest of the Swedish Allsvenskan season after undergoing a knee surgery.

“Bubacarr Trawally has been suffering from knee problem for some time, and now Hammarby's medical team, in consultation with Bubacarr, has taken the decision to carry out a knee operation. This means that the attacking player will miss the remainder of the season,” said the club in a statement.

‘Steve’ as he is fondly called, moved to the Swedish Allsvenskan after leaving Emirati side Ajman in 2022.

“Shortly after Bubacarr "Steve" Trawally joined Hammarby, he sustained a knee injury during a national team training session. After a period of rehab, he was ready to play in the spring and felt his knee was stable. During the summer, however, he suffered further trauma to the same knee, both in the first derby against Djurgården and in the subsequent home game against IFK Göteborg. This led to a new rehab period that meant he missed a couple of games,” added the club.

According to the club, it has now come to a point where "Steve" feels that he is hampered too much to perform at a sufficient level, adding that Hammarby's medical team concluded that rehabilitation and strength building are no longer giving him sufficient stability, leading to pain in his knee joint. Therefore, they decide to perform a surgical intervention.

“We feel for "Steve" who has done his utmost to perform and help the team, while he has not been able to reach his full potential due to the problem with his knee. Our medical team has worked hard with Steve to keep him available, but in order for "Steve" to do justice to himself and the team in the long run, surgery is required, and we are choosing to do it now instead of after the season," said the club’s sports director, Jesper Jansson.

“Bubacarr himself is saddened, but at the same time relieved that the decision has been made.”

“It has been frustrating not to be able to show my best side while I have been bothered by this injury, but I will come back stronger and look forward to contributing to the team next year and fighting together to achieve our dreams,” said ‘Steve”.
