Brikama zonal team head coach Sheriff Mankajang has said the condition of the Serrekunda East Mini-Stadium pitch is not be blamed for his side’s elimination from the 2022 Gambia Football Federation (GFF) super nawettan zonal football tournament.

The Sateyba boys lost to Serrekunda West 7-6 on post-match penalty shootouts in their quarterfinal game played at the Serrekunda East Mini-Stadium on Tuesday.

“The condition of the Serrekunda East Mini-Stadium pitch is not to be blamed for our elimination from the country’s prestigious and biggest community football fiesta,’’ coach Mankajang said.

Playing away from home is also not to be blamed for their exit from the GFF super nawettan zonal football championship, he said, adding that they train on sandy fields, such as the Arabic School field and the Alpha Khan Upper Basic Football field.

“It is a disappointing moment for me as head coach of Brikama zonal team,” he said. “This is football and sometimes certain things happen. But we have to take the defeat in good faith and forge ahead.”

Brikama were unbeaten in the GFF super nawettan zonal football championship prior to their quarterfinal match against Serrekunda West.

The Sateyba boys will now switch their attention to the 2022 West Coast Zonal football tournament final against Sanyang on 31 December 2022 following their exit from the GFF super nawettan zonal football tournament.
