The Gambia senior national team have started preparations as their 2026 World Cup qualifier match against Gabon edges closer.

The Scorpions will host Gabon in their second-leg fixture of the global biggest football showpiece qualifier on Friday 10th October 2025.

The Gambia slipped to Gabon 3-2 in their first-leg tie of the 2026 World Cup qualifier match played in Franceville last year.

Coach Jonathan Mckinstry will use the upcoming days to prepare the Scorpions ready for their crunch qualifier clash with the Gabonese.

The Gambia thrashed Kenya 3-1 and Burundi 2-0 in their 2026 World Cup qualifier matches played in Kenya last month.

A win against Gabon will boost The Gambia's FIFA World Ranking.

The Scorpions currently occupy third-place in Group A of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with 10 points after eight qualifier matches.

The Gambia won three matches, drew one and lost four.

Gabon currently sit second-place in Group F of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with 19 points in eight qualifier matches.

The Gabonese won six matches, drew one and lost one.
