May Day sports to be held at McCarthy Square

The organising committee of the annual May Day Sports events has announced that due to the current renovation work at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, the annual sports events held on May 1st will go ahead but at the McCarthy Square in Banjul.

The organising committee made this disclosure during a press conference last week. It also revealed that 14 events will be competed for during this year’s sports celebration.

According to the committee, some of the new exciting introductions in this year’s celebration are a two-day volleyball competition to be held days before the May Day as well as Sports for Health, which aims to promote healthy living and physical fitness.

The committee encouraged interested institutions and companies to pay their registration fees of D20,000 each.

Marcel Mendy, the Executive Director of the National Sports Council expressed confident that this year’s event will be a great success, adding that it will provide an excellent opportunity for individuals and companies to showcase their skills and promote healthy living.

“With Zenith Bank’s support and a host of exciting new events, May Day 2023 is shaping up to be one of the most significant events of the year,” he said.
