Kumba wins Scorpion TV, Gam Women’s Football Fans TV player of season award

Red Scorpion forward Kumba Kuyateh has won the 2022-2023 Scorpion TV and Gam Women’s Football Fans TV player of the year award.

Kuyateh was the leading goal scorer during the 2022-2023 Women’s League Division One.

The Bakau-born sensational forward scored 20 goals and also guided her side to back-to-back Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Women’s League Division One titles.

Speaking to Point Sports in a telephone interview, Kumba Kuyateh, expressed delight for receiving the player of year award.

She thanked the Scorpion TV and Gam Women’s Football Fans TV for awarding her as the best player of the season.

“I was not expecting this award to be honest. Scorpion TV and Gam Women’s Football Fans TV are taking women’s football to another level,’’ she said.

‘‘This is a great move by the Scorpion TV and Gam Women’s Football Fans TV to award the best 11 players in each league season,’’ she said.

She commended them for their tireless efforts in making sure players are happy, adding that when her mother saw the award she was really excited.

Diminga Mendy of Berewuleng was awarded as the best goalkeeper of the season.

Fatou Fatty of  Red Scorpion, Mariama Bojang of Red Scorpion, Kumba Kuyateh of Red Scorpion, Fatoumatta Jammeh of Red Scorpion and Kaddy Jatta of Red Scorpion were all awarded following their excellent performances in the  2022-2023 Women’s League season.

Fatou Mook of The Gambia Police Force, Veronic Sambou of Koita FC, Kumba Kassama of Berewuleng FC, Fatou Beyai of The Gambia Armed Forces and Sally Saidykhan of City Girls were also awarded for their stunning performances in the 2022-2023 Women’s League Division One season.

Coach Fakebba Saine won the best coach of the year award.

Sally Saidykhan of City Girls won the youngest player of the season award.
