The Gambia biggest football arena will be hosting the country’s national team2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier home matches and the 2026\2027 CAF Champions League preliminary qualifier second-leg clash between Medina United and Star Sports Academy next month.
According to sources, the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) was informed of the development by Confederation of African Football (CAF).
A CAF inspector is expected to be sent to the Independence Stadium during the upcoming international matches to assess the organisation and operational standards of the matches.
If the inspection is satisfactory, the Independence stadium could receive full CAF approval to host international matches.
The development marked major step forward for Gambian football, potentially allowing the national team and clubs to enjoy home advantage in international competitions.
