Hon. Barrow’s sponsored Batakunkung football tournament kicks-off

The majority leader of the National Assembly, who also doubles as the NAM for Kombo South Constituency, Hon. Kebba K. Barrow’s sponsored football tournament in Batakunkung, Kombo South has commenced on Saturday.

The opening of the tournament played at the Batakunkung football field, featured Central FC and Black Scorpions. The game ended 3-2 in favuor of Black Scorpions.

The winning side (Black Scorpions) scored their goals through Abdoulie Cole’s brace in the 27th and 61th minutes respectively while Malang Jasseh scored the third goal in the 50 minute.

Almami Jobarteh and Mam Demba scored for the losing team in the 35th minute and stoppage time of the second half.

Speaking to Pointsports, Hon. Kebba K. Barrow said he has been supporting youth and sports development in the country for over 30 years. He added that this is since when he was manager of one of the most progressive youth football team called “Dabanany FC”. He also said that the club produced some of the most outstanding players in the country such as Abdoulie Star Janneh, Foday Jabang and Adu Boy Chenpez, among others.

He further said that he was also part of West Coast Region Football Committee as well as served as the first national youth executive members of the Republic of The Gambia.

He stated that he was passionate about football, noting that after being elected as NAM, his target was to spend D250,000 during his 5 years’ tenure in the National Assembly on sports. He added that he has now gone beyond his target. 

“The first trophies I sponsored were in Jambur in 2017 and 2018, then in Gunjur in 2019,” he disclosed, adding that he had also sponsored a football tournament in Farato at the tone of over D60, 000.

“In 2019 I supported all teams in Kombo South with an amount of D115,000,” he said further.
