The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) through the Technical Staff of The Gambia U-20 team this week intensified preparations for the Young Scorpions’ smooth participation in the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup to be held in Indonesia in May 2023.

The team last week held a meeting with the first-vice president of the GFF, Bakary K. Jammeh, who also doubles as Football House’s Head of Administration and Finance at the Federation’s Headquarters in Kanifing East Layout.

On Monday, Head Coach Abdoulie Bojang and his staff presented the AFCON report to the Technical Director Mr. Sang John Ndong in the form of a roundtable discussion held at the home of Gambian football, the National Technical Training Centre (NTT) in Old Yundum.

The Evaluation and Planning was meant to discuss and evaluate The Gambia U-20 team’s participation at the recently concluded U-20 Africa Cup of Nations hosted in Egypt where the team won silver medals having reached its first-ever final where they eventually lost to Senegal 2-0.

The discussions centered on intensifying plans for the U-20 World Cup participation included resuming training, local camp and international camp/friendly matches before the World Cup, amongst others.

Meanwhile, The Gambia U-20 team coach Abdoulie Bojang yesterday, Tuesday left Banjul for Bali, Indonesia to attend the FIFA U-20 World Cup draw.

Coach Bojang will be accompanied by the team manager Pa Suwareh Faye and team administrator Modou Jagne.

There are growing fears around the media that the draw might possibly be cancelled after the protest against Israel’s participation in the tournament grows in Indonesia but FIFA is yet to give an official statement at the time of going to press.

The draw is expected to take place on March 31.
