The Gambia who defeated three of the Norwegian teams in their group have progressed to the round of 16 stage in style after winning all their matches without conceding a single goal in Oslo.
The Gambian team which comprises 22 players and officials opened their tournament campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of Stadalen Idrettslag on Sunday.
Jang Jallow scored a brace, while Assan Sanyang, Ali Jahateh and Yankuba Ceesay each scored a goal to give The Gambia a commanding 5-0 victory.
The Gambian side also defeated Tiller IL, another Norwegian side 4-0 in their second match played on Monday.
Jang Jallow, Adama Isatou Suso and Ali Jahateh scored the goals for the Young Gambian side.
The Gambia completed their group stage matches in style after demolishing Brumunddal Fotball 2 6-0 in their third and final group game.
The goals were scored by Captain Assan Sanyang, Yankuba Ceesay, Jang Jallow, Jerre Amie, Yankuba Touray and Mayor Tamba respectively.
Meanwhile, The Gambian team under the guidance of Sherif Alieu Touray and former Gambian international Aziz Corr Nyang have booked a place into the round of 16.
Tijan Jaiteh, the Gambian representative of the Norway Cup, said the Gambian team performed beyond expectation and had made everyone proud so far.
“We are hoping to get very far in the tournament with these decisive victories,” Jaiteh, who is also the Sports Ambassador for The Gambia said.
A win in the round of 16 stage will progress The Gambia into the semifinal stage.
The Norway Cup is the world’s biggest youth football tournament festival for children and youngsters aged 10 to 19 years old.
