The Gambia senior team now switches its attention to their 2026 World Cup qualifier matches after securing qualification to the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Ivory Coast.

The Scorpions drew 2-2 with Congo Brazzaville in their sixth and final qualifier match played in Marrakech, Morocco on Sunday to cruise to the continent’s bi-annual biggest football fiesta.

The Gambia will begin their global biggest football showpiece qualifier match away to Burundi in November 2023 before hosting Ivory Coast in their second group match in the same month.

Coach Tom Saintfiet and his charges will use the upcoming months to prepare themselves fit and ready for their crunch 2026 World Cup qualifier matches.

The Gambia will clash to win their qualifier matches to fancy their dreams of qualifying for their first-ever World Cup.

It could recalled that the Scorpions failed to secure qualification to the 2022 World Cup hosted in Qatar, after losing to Angola 3-1 on aggregate in their preliminary qualifier matches.
