Gambia SSS, scan Aid win Region 1 inter-schools championship trophies

Gambia Senior Secondary School and Scan Aid Senior Secondary School were over the over the weekend crowned champions of the 2023 Gambia Schools Football Association (GSFA) Region one inter-schools football championship trophies.

Gambia Senior Secondary School won the male category after beating Scan Aid Senior Secondary School 2-1 at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.

Gambia Senior Secondary School opened the scores through Mustapha Sanneh in the 3rd minute of the match from a brilliant free kick before Alagie Daffeh leveled matter for Scan Aid Senior Secondary School in the 15th minute.

KawsuSanyang’s late strike was all enough to Gambia Senior Secondary School a slender win over Scan Aid Senior Secondary School. 

As champions, Gambia Senior Secondary School went home with a giant trophy, bags and footballs.

In the female category Scan Aid Senior Secondary School thumped Gambia Senior Secondary School 2-0.

Scan Aid opened the scoring through Red Scorpion playmaker Maimuna Dukureh in the 63rd minute before Ramatoulie Jagne extended Scan Aid’s lead four minutes later.

Scan Aid Senior Secondary School received a giant trophy, bags and footballs.

Speaking to journalist after the final match, Saikou Sanneh alias Austin expressed delight for winning the Region One inter-schools football championship trophy.

“It has been long for us since 2018 we have not participated in this final so it’s long process for us but finally we have grabbed what we have deserved.” Coach Sanneh said.

“I said always the first two minute is the most important in our game plan, let us create chances, let’s test their goalkeeper.”

“So we had a free kick and I knew we had very good free kick takers in the team.”

For his part, the head coach of Scan Aid Amadou Jatta, said the defeat come to him and all players as a shock.

‘‘Nonetheless we are going back to the drawing board and prepare for the principal’s cup’’.

He added that his team fought very hard from the first whistle to the last.
