The Gambia senior national team need a victory against Mali in their third Group G match in September 2022 to fancy their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification aspirations.

The Scorpions lost to Congo 1-0 in their second group match played in Brazza Ville on 8th June 2022 after beating South Sudan 1-0 in their opening group match played at Stade Lat Dior on 4th June 2022.

Coach Tom Saintfiet and his charges must overcome the Malians in their third group match to increase their chances of securing qualification to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted in Ivory Coast.

Mali is currently leading Group G of the continent’s bi-annual biggest football showpiece qualifiers with 6 points following their resounding 4-0 victory over Congo in their opening group match played at Stade Modibo Keita in Bamako on 4th June 2022 before their 3-1 away win over South Sudan in their second group match played in Uganda on 8th June 2022.
