Gambia National Olympic Committee Celebrates 2020 OLYMPIC DAY

Jun 24, 2020, 2:22 PM

Fellow Olympians and the entire Olympic family, Unlike previous years, the Gambia National Olympic Committee joins the Olympic Family in the virtual way of celebrating the 2020 Olympic Day due to COVID 19 Pandemic.
The Modern Olympic Movement was founded on 23 June 1894 in Paris, France. The Olympic Day Celebration established in 1948 is celebrated to promote participation in sport regardless of age, gender or athletic ability, as well as being an opportunity to celebrate the Olympic values around the world.  The celebration creates greater awareness of the Olympic Movement and the Ideals of Olympism. This year June 23 2020 marks the 72nd commemoration.
And as IOC President Thomas Bach said, “Celebrating Olympic Day may feel very different from all previous years, but at the same time, on this Olympic Day, our message of the power of sport to bring hope and optimism to everyone resonates even stronger.
With the global corona virus crisis, all of us are living with much uncertainty about the future. In these difficult times, we need the values of sport, our shared Olympic values of excellence, friendship, respect and solidarity, more than ever’’
The Gambia National Olympic Committee joins the IOC President and the entire Olympic Family in this Olympic spirit to wish you all a wonderful Olympic Day 2020 celebration.
